Great Exhibition Range by Royal Collection Trust

The Royal Collection have launched their own special merchandise to commemorate the Great Exhibition which was opened by Queen Victoria in 1851. The Great Exhibition was organised by Henry Cole and by Prince Albert and took place in Hyde Park from 1 May to 15 October 1851,

The design was inspired by the Victoria pattern dessert service the Queen purchased at the Great Exhibition for 1,000 guineas. The service, created by Minton in Staffordshire, attracted much attention for its beauty and Victoria presented 69 pieces to the Austrian Emperor, Franz Josef I. Victoria retained the balance of the service for herself, supplementing it with turquoise-ground dessert plates bearing the V&A monogram, and further dessert stands.
